Error: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

If there is a problem with the certificate of the SharePoint server you are trying to connect to, you may get this error message:

"The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel."

A quick test to ascertain the issue is to try and open the same SharePoint site you are trying to connect to using SQList, in a browser (Internet Explorer will do), and ensure that you do not any warning about the certificate.

Note that depending on the version of the browser you use the warning can appear in several ways; some examples are shown below.
