Error: "'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown"

This is a common error thrown by SharePoint and can be caused by a variety of reasons.

There are a few things you should check, to exclude obvious reasons for this error:

1) Check that the site settings are correct. To do this, open a browser (IE will do), on the same machine on which SQList is installed, and go to your SharePoint site using the same URL  and user credentials you used in SQList Manager.

You should see your SharePoint site and be able to browse the lists.

2) Check that web services are enabled on the SharePoint site you are trying to connect. To do this, open a browser (IE will do), on the same machine on which SQList is installed, and go to this URL:

http://<path-to-your-sharepoint-site>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx

You should see a screen that looks like the one shown below. If not, contact your SharePoint administrator to have web services enabled.

Unfortunately pinpointing the exact item that is causing this error is not possible and the best thing to do at this point is to send us a detailed event report.

Could you please follow these steps:
  1. Using SQList Manager, stop the service;
  2. Enable the option "Enable Verbose Event Logging" and click the "Deploy Configuration" button;
  3. Start the service;
  4. Check the event viewer until the error is displayed on the event viewer;
  5. Send us an event report including site profiles.
This should give us a better insight into what is happening and will hopefully allow us to find the root of the problem.
